Launch the media gallery 1 player

Thirty-four Brokaw FFA members of Clarinda recently competed in eleven Career Development Event areas at the Sub-District level at Red Oak High School on Wednesday, February 12.  All speaking contest areas from the Brokaw FFA Chapter advanced on to the district level. The following members competed in the following events, with their placing in parentheses: Colby Carlson, Jadyn Sunderman, Hailee Knight, Aubrey Herzberg, Jason Wright and alternates Colbie Wilmes, Alana Stickler, and Marshal Miller in the Parliamentary Procedure event (Gold- 1st); Phoebe Garrett, Allyson Johnson, Adam Johnson, Brevin Coston, DaNae Larson, Skylar Ned, and Brooklyn Harris in the Conduct of Meetings event (Gold- 2nd); Shayla Harris in the Ag Sales event (Gold- 2nd); Ethan Herzberg, Bradlie Wilmes, and Dagen Price in the Chapter Program of Activities contest (Gold- 1st); Lanie Garrett in the Radio Broadcasting event (Gold- 1st); Kari VanNostrand in the Public Speaking event (Gold- 1st); Kristen Smith in the Job Interview event (Gold- 1st); and Alex Baker in the Extemporaneous Speaking event (Gold- 1st). Freshmen members also participated in the Greenhand Quiz event, with Phoebe Garrett, Drake Riddle, Allyson Johnson, and Nathan King receiving Gold ratings; Skylar Ned, Adam Johnson, Brooklyn Harris, Rhyn Walters, Brevin Coston, Alea VanVactor, Harley Beery, and Levi Wise receiving Silver ratings; and Forrest Eberly receiving a Bronze rating. Brokaw members participated in the Farm Business Management test, with Bradlie Wilmes and Blaine Coston receiving a Gold rating; Kristen Smith, Dagen Price, and Lanie Garrett receiving Silver ratings; and Madelyn Pulliam, Lane Mellencamp, and Carter Larson receiving Bronze ratings. Ethan Jones competed in the Arc Welding contest, receiving a Bronze rating.

Because each speaking contest area placed in the top three at Sub-District competition, those members have advanced in their respective contests to district competition that will be held at the Southwest District Convention at Harlan High School on March 7.  Members who place either first or second in their contest areas at the district level will compete against others from the other five FFA districts in the state of Iowa at the State FFA Leadership Conference in Ames on April 20-21.
