Cardinal Theatre Announces Spring Mainstage Production

ALMOST, MAINE

by John Cariani

Cardinal Theatre will present John Cariani’s romantic comedy, Almost, Maine for two performances, March 29 and 30. Curtain time is  7:30 pm. Ticket reservations are encouraged  and are available in the Clarinda High School office by calling 542-5167. General ticket sales are also available at the door on the nights of production.

The story of the play welcomes us to Almost, Maine--a place that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States. It’s almost in Canada. And it’s not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it almost doesn’t exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost, Maine find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.

Almost, Maine is an ensemble play about 9 different couples in various stages of falling in or out of love. Featured in the cast are Alex Baker as Pete and Cloe Holmstrom as Ginette; Kate Landhuis as Glory, and Owen Smith as East.  Also featured are Storm Howard and Tatiana Schaapherder as Jimmy and Sandrine. Lauren Tunnicliff appears as a waitress at the local hangout, The Moose Paddy Sports Bar and Grill.  Later,  Jenna Kim (Marvalyn) and Aiden Shatava (Steve) have an interesting encounter, while Kari VanNostrand as Gayle and Jordan Fasnacht as Lendall work on their relationship. Also, Randy (Damon Nally) and Chad (Gavin Moheng) have a serious discussion about their disastrous dates. Cooper Randolph as Phil and Isabel Solivan as Marci try to repair their marriage. Brett Samuelson in the role of Hope, and Bryce Glidden, a  man living in Almost have a chance encounter.  Finally, after a night ride on their snowmobiles, long-time friends Rhonda (Hannah Powers) and  Dave (Gabe Holmstrom) struggle to understand their relationship.

Behind the scenes the Production Staff design and create the sets, costumes, and effects. The Production Staff for Almost, Maine is led by Stage Managers Lauren Tunnicliff and Chase McAndrews.  Set construction is managed by Mr. Alford’s Stagecraft Class.  Master Electricians are  Samantha Eberly and Morgan Rope.  Riley Holmstrom creates the Sound Design of the production. Property Masters Aya Hamanaka and Tamara-Jo Schaapherder.  Costume Design is managed by Seth Ohden and Kamdyn Beal.  Creating  Special Effects is Maddie Sunderman.   Publicity and promotion for the production and Front of House Management is arranged by Bradlie Wilmes. The crew helping the Production Staff includes Taylor Wedemeyer, Colbie Wilmes, Cody Graham, Emma Harris, Leah Spade, and Joella Patterson, Catie Plowman, and Paige Daly.

Tickets are $3.00 for students and $5.00 for adults. Students who present their activity ticket to the high school office are allowed one ticket free of charge. Students must make a reservation before 4:00 pm on Friday, March 29. Activity tickets will not be honored on the nights of performance March 29 and 30.  Make your reservations for a great night of theatre by calling the Clarinda High School office at 542-5167.  Audience members are sure to enjoy their visit to Almost, Maine.
