Clarinda FCCLA has Third State Officer Elected
Holiday Inn Des Moines Airport, Des Moines – A Blast from the past was the theme at this year’s annual Iowa FCCLA State Leadership Conference. Members from the Clarinda Chapter were among the 420 members from around the state who joined together to celebrate their hard work, network, compete, and further work on developing their leadership skills. Allison DeVoe served as State FCCLA Vice President of Competitive Events for 2017-18 and Hallee Fine was elected FCCLA State Vice President of Public Relations for 2018-19. Carly Rahn served as State FCCLA Vice President of Competitive Events for 2016-17 so this is three state officers in a row for the Clarinda FCCLA Chapter.
Kent Jullian gave a keynote speech on how he was an “at-risk” kid who now speaks all over the world about how he beat the odds and now helps others to be better people.
The Clarinda FCCLA had the opportunity to develop their personal leadership skills, hone specific career-ready skills, and develop projects that educate community members and influence change by improving the lives of those whom might be less fortunate than themselves. Some of the programs made available to members are: Step One Webquest, Peer Education, STAR Events, Power of One.
Members also had the opportunity to attend workshops and network. The workshops focused on providing insight to a variety of different career options related to family and consumer sciences or human services, the future partnership with the Midwest Dairy Council, membership, and several other topics that relate to running a healthy chapter.
STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, career preparation, and leadership. The members receiving the highest score in each event qualify to move onto the National STAR Event competition held at the 2018 National Leadership Conference in Atlanta,GA. Members from the Clarinda Chapter received the following medals in their respective category: Allison DeVoe, Job Interview, Gold Metal advancing to Nationals: Carly Rahn ,Madolynn Clark , Chapter Service Display ,Gold Metal, advancing to National; Hallee Fine, Kylie Schackelford, Aziah Smalley , Illustrated Talk, Gold, Alternate to Nationals; Lanie Garrett, Emillee Haffner, Jalyn Sharr, Chapter Service Display Portfolio, Silver; Faith Espinosa, Chapter Service Display , Bronze, Kristen Smith, Madolyn Pulliam, Entrepreneurship, Silver and Teya Stickler, Madison Sunderman Illustrated Talk Silver
