Excursion to Nodaway Valley Park
The biology classes took a two hour excursion to Nodaway Valley Park on Thursday, September 14th as a finale to our study on Biomes. Jerry Abma, a retired conservation officer, spent the first hour talking about the history of the landforms in southwest Iowa, extinct fauna and a variety of plant life. Mr. Abma is a wealth of knowledge and the classes were fortunate to have him teach. The second hour was spent collecting various plants and identifying the biotic and abiotic factors, and classifying plants by genus and species. Items collected were brought back and students will be identifying the genus and species of the flora collected.
Special thanks to Heidi Bird and Ali Wellhausen for accompanying me and my biology classes on this very enlightening and educational trip.
