Hawkeye 10 Art Show
The Hawkeye 10 Art Show was hosted at Shenandoah High School this year. When we arrived to the show students had an hour to set up our school’s booth display in the gym. Students and teachers then attended a presentation by the keynote speaker, Natalie Groves, who is a very active freelance artist. Natalie illustrates children’s books, designs business signs, as well as a variety of other artistic endeavors. Immediately following the keynote speaker students returned to the gym to begin the student critique process.
Each school was given 30 ribbons to hand out to the other 10 schools. CHS students rotated booths and critiqued other student’s work, who were attending the Hawkeye 10 Art Show. The students chose three pieces from each school to award a ribbon to, there was great group discussion held by the students. In the afternoon there were workshops put on by many local artists some of the workshops included were: woodworking, bleaching T-shirts, jewelry making, paper party hats, day of the dead masks, plain air painting, encaustic painting, perspective drawing, cookie decorating, fish prints, ceramic paints and gelli printing. After the afternoon workshops students reported to the gym for the Hawkeye 10 Conference Artist Of The Year awards. This year there were 4 CHS seniors that were awarded – Skie Campbell, Josh Degase, Mikaela Fine and Cassidy Marcum. The students were very happy with the results of the student critiques and had a great time at the show.
