HS Marching Band
The Clarinda High School Marching Band completed their 2016 marching band season on a high note, with a Division I Superior Rating at the IHSMA State Festival. This is the band's fifth consecutive Division I rating. Additional highlights from the year include a 2nd place finish in class 2A and 3rd place finish overall at the 25th Annual Loess Hills FieldFest Invitational in Glenwood on October 8. Drum majors, Levi Frazier and Grace Davidson received the outstanding drum major caption award, a tremendous recognition.
The bands 2016 show was entitled BOO! and included musical selections, In a Darkened Hall, Masked by Shadows and Mountain King. The 75 student musicians, who participate in the high school band work hard each fall to learn 55 sets of drill, memorize over seven minutes worth of music and even add visuals to their performance. The band performs at each varsity home football game and at three Saturday contests in October. Please take a moment to congratulate any band members you know for their successful marching band season.
As the weather cools off outside, the band will begin preparing inside for their Winter Concert on December 12. Individual students are also preparing music for the Iowa All-State auditions held on October 22 and SWIBA honor band auditions held on December 10. Additionally, the jazz band begins to meet thrice weekly to prepare for their competitive season. The ever-popular “PEP” band begins performances at home basketball games beginning November 29.
