CARDINAL THEATRE ANNOUNCES SPRING MAINSTAGE PRODUCTION

The Spoon River Project  adapted by Tom Andolora, based on Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters.

Cardinal Theatre’s spring mainstage production will be The Spoon River Project adapted by Tom Andolora, based on Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters. The performances will be on March 18 and 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school theatre. Tickets can be reserved by calling the high school office at 712-542-5167. Reservations are recommended.

Spoon River Anthology (1915), by Edgar Lee Masters, is a collection of short free-form poems that collectively narrates the epitaphs of the residents of Spoon River, a fictional small town named after the real Spoon River that ran near Masters' home town.  Many of the characters who make appearances in Spoon River Anthology were based on real people that Masters knew or heard of in the two towns in which he grew up: Petersburg and Lewistown, Illinois.  The aim of the poems is to demystify the rural, small town American life. Each poem is an epitaph of a dead citizen, delivered by the dead themselves. They speak about the sorts of things one might expect: some recite their histories and turning points, others make observations of life from the outside, and petty ones complain of the treatment of their graves, while few tell how they really died. Speaking without reason to lie or fear the consequences, they construct a picture of life in their town that is shorn of facades.

The Acting Company includes Rachel Schaner, Mark Engstrand, Jacob Slough, Levi Frazier, Cassidy Marcum, Dylan Pafford, Josey Stanton, Hannah Sunderman, Brett Samuelson, Lucas Shatava, Jesse Espinosa, Jared Kirsch, Annie Wallin, Josh Espinosa, Grace Davidson, Olivia Plowman, Michaela McAndrews, Lauren Tunnicliff, Marissa Hernandez, & Anna Hull. All actors are challenged in that they each will portray at least two or three different characters.

The Production Staff includes Stage Managers Sarah Cabeen & Shelby VanFosson, Master Electricians Briar Murray & Travus McGregor, Costumer Alicia Engstrand, Makeup & Hair Designer Olivia Plowman, Sound Designer Cori Owens, and Publicity & House Manager Allison DeVoe.

Cardinal Theatre’s production of The Spoon River Project will be March 18 and 19 at 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, please call 712-542-5167.
