HS Learning Center Update
Mrs. Madison and Mrs. Kirsch both teach at the high school in the Learning Center. The Learning Center helps students improve foundational skills, study skills, and basic living skills.
One of the classes taught by both Mrs. Madison and Mrs. Kirsch is Transition Learning. This class addresses student's IEP goals. Each of the teachers instructs students on specific skills—mainly focusing on reading and on math.
Students also learn techniques to help them in other classes. Some of the information in the class focuses on reviewing, developing math skills, and learning reading strategies. Each student gains information throughout the week to improve success in these academic areas.
Mrs. Madison and Mrs. Kirsch have also been delivering SDI, (Specially Designed Instruction) to students during Directed Study time or in the general education classroom. They demonstrate skills and strategies to re-enforce reading and math skills. These skills also get re-enforced with the help of paraprofessionals. Students will be able to use these techniques in all of their classes. The ultimate goal is to see improvements in classroom grades, as well as standardize tests, so students can see success in each of their classes.
