Winter Concert
On December 15 the Clarinda Music Department held their Winter Concert with performances from the band and choir. The Clarinda Choir opened the concert by processing in with a traditional carol, “Come Singing Noel”. They first performed a holiday favorite, "Carol of the Bells" by Peter J. Wiljousky and then created a peaceful scene with an arrangement of "Still, Still, Still" mixed with the Brahms' "Lullaby" as a song sung by candlelight. "Follow that Star" by Brian Lewis brought up the energy and was performed by an auditioned small group including Cheyene Wheeler, Skie Campbell, Nichole Hoyt, Lily Twaddle, Steph Baum, Hannah McCormick, Brady Sands, Levi Frazier, and Jacob Brooks. For their final number, the choir sang an "African Alleluia" by Benjamin Harlan with help from band members Sarah Cabeen, Jesse Espinosa, and Nik Landhuis on percussion. The choir was accompanied by the talented Sarah Dimond and St. John's Lutheran Church graciously lent the choir robes.
As the band set up for their portion of the concert, the choir led the audience in singing some carols together to pass the time. The band wrapped up the concert with excellent performances of "Joie De Vivre" by Gary P. Gilroy, "River of Life" by Steven Reinecke, "Toboggan Ride" by Stan Applebaum, "Prospect" and "In the Hall of the Mountain King," a holiday favorite by Pierre La Plante.
The music department wants to thank everyone in the community for supporting the choir and band and helping us to have a wonderful concert to end 2014!
