Iowa Cheer Honor Squad
On Friday, November 21st, three Clarinda High School cheerleaders participated in the annual Iowa Cheer Honor Squad at the halftime of the 1A and 2A State Football Championships at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls. Seniors Lexie Brown, Elizabeth Mayer, and Bri Russell were nominated by their coach, Julie Karns, to be a part of this statewide program to honor junior and senior cheerleaders across the state who have contributed to their cheerleading programs with their time, talent, and dedication. Participating in the Honor Squad were 227 cheerleaders from 80 schools across Iowa. Preparation for the event included an 8-hour practice in Ames on Sunday, November 16th, and another practice on Thursday, November 20th in Cedar Falls.
Two more CHS cheerleaders will be in the news next week. Seniors Allison VanVactor and Mallory Degase will be performing in the nationally televised Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City.
