Updates to Cardinal Theatre
Construction of the Clarinda High School Auditorium was completed in 1976. The stage floor of the facility has served countless performers, musicians, speakers, and community events over the decades. Now, in the summer of 2014, the stage floor has been replaced.
The new flooring on the stage has been designed to last for the next several decades of use. The stage floor is a concrete base with “stringers” to build upon. The new stage floor consists of 4 x 8 sheets of plywood, a covering of felt paper, and a final layer of specially constructed 4 x 8 sheets of plywood. This top layer, if damaged, is easily remedied. The damaged sheet can be removed and flipped, and screwed back into place.
The installation of the stage floor has made complete the updating of the facility. A tonal paint scheme was introduced when new carpet was installed and worn seats were replaced in the early 90s. Not long after that, a new sound system was installed. In 2002, a new computerized stage lighting system was purchased and installed. All major elements of this unique facility have a major “facelift.” And perhaps most notable to audience members will be the final piece of dressing. In July, all new drapes will be installed. The black (masking) drapes will be a lush velour fabric, and the Grand Drapes will be a deep, rich red.
