STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
4th Grade STEM Field Trip
Fourth grade students were introduced to engineering and technology concepts by Mrs. Farrell. To culminate the lessons, students toured the EZ-Way Corporation. Mary Landhuis, President of EZ-Way, and engineer Chris Fasnacht, sparked their interest by giving them first hand experience on how EZ-Way employees design, engineer and build ceiling lift motors.
Third Grade STEM Project
Third graders at Garfield are becoming pinball designers. Through a program called STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) students have taken on a project to help a fictional toy company design a pinball kit for their customers. The students have experimented with different variables and target locations to try to make the best pinball machines possible. They are recognizing the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in business and real world situations.
The third graders have enjoyed working on the pinball designs.
This program was made possible through a STEM grant.
