Luna Wins State Wrestling Title
Blake Luna reached his last and final goal of his high school career on Saturday in the state wrestling finals. Luna won the 6th state title for Clarinda with a 4-3 decision that came down to the last and final overtime. Luna will finish his career as a Cardinal with a 172-15 record which is third on the all time list behind Michael Wells 178-17 and Bryant Hummel 173-15 both former state champs.
JJ. Clark went 1-2 at the state tournament and was just one match away from placing. Dusty Swindler went 0-2 at the state meet and ran into some tough competition but competed very well in both his matches. Cain Johanns also went 0-2 and had an oppurtunity to win his match on the backside but just couldn't hold on for the win. Dakota Calfee went 0-2 as well and was in a position to win his second match when he got rolled and pinned. All of the young men worked very hard all year to give themselves the opportunity to wrestle at the state tournament. We will be losing five seniors Blake Luna, Andrew Denham, Ross Christie, Dusty Swindler & Dakota Calfee and wish them the best of luck in their futures.
