CHS WILL HOST SPEECH CONTEST
Clarinda High School will host a District Large Group Speech Contest on Saturday, January 25. The contest is sponsored by the Iowa High School Speech Association. The public is invited to attend to see Clarinda High School students perform as well as talented students from southwest Iowa. Over 30 schools from the area are slated to perform at the contest.
Clarinda’s entries include Readers Theatre performing Last Letters Home. Students in Readers Theatre are Robbie Leach, Sam Rarick, Travus McGregor, Mariah Mullen, David Rahn, Dylan Warrick, Madi Cabbage, Rachel Schaner, Grace Davidson, Cassidy Marcum, Cori Owens, Hannah Sunderman, and Josey Stanton. The One Act Play is Down Came the Rain by Burgess Clark and features Nathan Jones and Levi Frazier. The technical crew for the One Act Play includes Trent Aldrich, Alex Guthrie, and Sara Williamson. Two Ensemble Acting entries from CHS are Sorry by Timothy Mason with Adam Carroll and Maddy Davidson, and “Her Heart” from Almost, Maine by John Cariani with Isaac Durfey and Holly Crawford. The Group Improvisation teams will compete. One group consists of Jacob Slough, Brandon Bommer, and Jordan Kilani. Another is Celby Holmstrom, Jade Brownfield, Ian Eaves, and Hannah McCormack. The third Group Improvisation team is Annie Wallin, Chandler Strough, and Delayne Glassgow. In the category of Musical Theatre, Megan Calfee and Savannah Sieburg will perform selections from the Guys and Dolls. Finally, in the Short Film category, Adam Carroll is producing an orginal script, Tetrophobia. The film will feature Sebastian Eighmy, Nick Clement, Rachel Schaner, Isaac Durfey, Robbie Leach, Grace Davidson, Maddy Davidson, Dillon Chambers, and Dylan Warrick.
All groups performing at the contest will be evaluated by certified IHSSA judges and given a rating fro their performances. Top rated groups will move on to present their work at the State level contest to be held at Ankeny High School on Saturday, February 8.
To see the CHS performances and other performances from area schools, attend the IHSSA District Speech Contest on Saturday, January 25. The contest begins at 8:00 AM and continues through the afternoon.
