Boys Basketball
The 2013-14 basketball season is officially underway! The Cardinal Boys squad has a total of 43 players this year in the 9-12 grade, thirteen players more than last years squad. The team has also added a new 9th grade coach, Jordan Moses. The squad includes four seniors, eight juniors, thirteen sophomores, and seventeen freshman.
The Varsity squad returns three starters in Noah Bix, Justin Cabeen, and Jason McCall, and seven others from last year’s Varsity team including Senior Troy Aldrich and Juniors Jared DeVoe Austin Smith, Jett Kettwick, Jayden Landess, Dedric Kettwick, and Clint Fine. Newcomers to this year’s Varsity squad are Senior Blake Luckado and Sophomore Jacob Carlson. The JV members include Junior Alex Chambers and Sophomores Elijah Bix, Jacob Degase, Logan Brooke, Jacob Brooks, Mark Engstrand, Josh Espinosa, Andrew Foster, Ethan Lantz, Trevor Richardson, Alex Stull, Owen Gibson, and Daniel Frey. The 9th Grade squad members are: Zach Carlson, Deitrich Engstrand, Donevan Kelley, Connor Pirtle, Cody Hayes, Cody McClarnon, Stone McCoy, Jasper Fine, Carlton Rahn, Josh Degase, Tyler Luckado, Dallas Latham, Travus McGregor, Benton Bielfeldt, Jacob Ridnour, Jacob Dow, and Noah Carlson. Managers for this year’s squad are Kenzie Farlin , Taylor Honeysuckle, and videographer Trent Aldrich.
Gameplay began for the Varsity at Nodaway Valley where they lost a close game 66-63. Both the JV and 9th Grade squads started off the year at home on December 1 with a win vs. Nodaway Valley. The Cardinals are looking to continue to work hard and improve. The team will play at home vs. St. Albert on Tuesday, December 17, and at home vs. Red Oak on Thursday, December 19 before heading into Christmas Break.
