Security Planning and Preparation
The top priority of the district is to protect the safety of students, staff, and guests. School safety is everyone’s responsibility including students, staff, parents, and community members. We remind our students and staff to be vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or activity to an adult or school representative.
Numerous safety measures are being put in place to safeguard students and staff to ensure there is an atmosphere conducive to learning. We partnered with the Department of Homeland Security, Emergency Management Coordinator from Northwest Missouri State University, Clarinda Police Department, and the Page County Sheriff's Office to prepare our plans. Our school safety protocol includes:
- Emergency Crisis Operations Plan – The plan is being refined to reflect best practices and shared with law enforcement personnel.
- Safety Drills – We are continuously improving our practices and developing plans that will expand the drills we conduct to help prepare and inform all individuals.
- Emergency Training – We are developing emergency preparedness training that follows Standard Response Protocol.
- Controlled Access – Each exterior building door is remotely controlled and monitored.
- Visitor Registry – All visitors must register in the front office using the Envoy Registration System and receive a temporary identification badge prior to having access to the school.
- Identification Badges – All staff display district-issued identification badges when at school.
- Interior and Exterior Cameras – Digital cameras throughout each school monitor activity inside and out.
- Law Enforcement – Local law enforcement conducts regular visits at each school and helps address issues.
- Comprehensive Communication Plan – The purpose of the plan is to swiftly and accurately communicate essential information about a situation to first responders, district faculty, parents, and community members. The safety of children and staff is the focus throughout the situation.
- Reunification of Families – We are developing a detailed plan for the reunification of parents and their children in case of a major emergency necessitating the relocation of students.
- K-9 – City and County K-9 units will be randomly utilized to detect illegal substances on school premises.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we work diligently to keep our students, staff, and guests safe.
