Seventh Graders Study Friction and Mass in Science Class

The seventh-grade science students have recently been studing friction and mass. They have been studying the different types of friction and how friction can be affected. They have also been learning about mass, and how this affects friction, and the difference between weight and mass. The seventh grade science students took some inspiration from the Olympics. During this time, they studied the Olympic sport of curling. The students learned how you score points, what the role of each team member is, and how teammates use science in the sport. Since we couldn’t actually play curling in the classroom, we played a modified version called penny curling. The students used pennies instead of rocks and had to slide the pennies to the target to win. The students loved playing penny curling! They learned a lot about the sport, the science behind it, and had a lot of fun.
