On Sunday, Oct. 29 and Monday, Oct. 30, Twenty-0ne members of the Clarinda High School Student Council attended the Iowa Association of Student Council Annual Fall Conference. The conference was held at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines. The conference began with a welcome from IASC President, Ellen Keast from Harlan High School. Several awards were given, including Adviser of the Year, Administrator of the Year, and Service Awards. The keynote speaker was Ted Weiss. Ted spoke about making the need for leaders to be willing to take action even if they must face fears.
The state project was introduced and student councils throughout the state will be fundraising and earning volunteer hours for the “Colleen’s Dream Foundation" Colleen's Dream Foundation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to finding an early detection process for Ovarian Cancer. IASC is partnering with Colleen’s Dream Foundation to donate.$50,000 to cancer research within the state of Iowa.
Students attended three different breakout sessions where they learned about various things. They learned about fundraising, honors council, building a community, building a bonded student council, games, school spirit, and so much more. The student council learned many things at this conference and look forward to attending again next year.
