Boys Individual State Golf
The Clarinda golf team participated in district golf, Friday May 20th, at Lake Panorama Country Club in Panora, Iowa. The course was in great shape, though it is one of the more difficult courses in the state.
The team shot a score of 352. Panorama lead the way with a 312. Carroll Kuemper was in second place with a 331. The third and final team moving on to state, because Panorama qualified on their own course, was Des Moines Christian with a 349.
Clarinda’s low score was an 80, shot by Connor Pirtle. This score was followed by an 86, from Benton Bielfeldt. The last two scores were Carlton Rahn (91) and William Shull (95). Bryce Neal and Brady Williams both came in with 103.
While it was a frustrating day as a team, missing advancing on to state by only three strokes, Connor’s low round was a bright spot. This score put him in a tie for second place, from non-state qualifying teams, with a possible state birth on the line. Connor found himself back on the first tee along with Cole Matheason of Roland-Story and Conner Conrad of Southeast Valley.
Connor started in a fairway bunker off the tee. He hit out past the green by 10 yards, then was able to chip-up to within five feet, and putt in for a par. Both of his competitors bogied the hole, so he was able to advance to state as an individual.
State Golf for 2A is at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, on Friday and Saturday, May 27th and 28th.
