Reading with Marissa
Garfield Preschool has been lucky enough to partner with Lied Public Library for the past two school years. Marissa Gruber comes in once a month and reads books to the students from their vast children’s collection. The books are centered around different holidays, activities, or interest of the students. She also shares songs and dances with the kids to get them active and moving. After each half hour session, Marissa leaves the students with a paper puppet for them to take home and decorate and play with at home. Starting in January, Marissa also does a book challenge with the students in which she goes from a reading list and picks all the books to read and checks them off. At the end of the list, they will vote on their favorite book to reread. This is a great chance for the community and the school to come together and instill a love of reading within the students!
