Clarinda Places in Culinary Competition
The Clarinda High School has won 1st and 3rd place at the IWCC Culinary Baking Competition. The event was held on March 4 at IWCC in Council Bluffs for the sixth annual competition. The teams attending are from the southwest Iowa area. The teams can choose baking competition or the culinary chicken competition. Clarinda High School has a new Culinary Arts Baking class this semester and the students attending the competition are in that FCS class. Cheryl Beaver is the teacher at CHS for the Family Consumer Sciences department.
The teams of Kylie Shackelford and Makenna Carson won 1st place in the baking competition and received a $1000 scholarship to IWCC if they chose to attend their culinary program. They made a chocolate and raspberry mousse with a raspberry sauce. Max Herrington and William Shull won 3rd place in the Baking Competition with a chocolate mousse in a white chocolate bowl.
The teams have two hours to compete their recipes. They are judged on: teamwork, time management, preparation skills, taste, appearance and safety and sanitation.
