Choose Kind
Inspired by the Great Kindness Challenge our students, staff, parents, and community members will celebrate Kindness Week March 11-14. The week is devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible at school, at home, or in the community.
There is a great need for unity, compassion, love, and respect in our schools, communities, country, and world. The Great Kindness Challenge is intended to proactively create a culture of kindness in schools with a ripple effect that is felt far and wide.
Counselors and staff are developing activities that are designed to help students learn the following skills:
- Develop an increased awareness of their own emotions, feelings and identities as caring individuals.
- Use appropriate emotional vocabulary, communication, and listening skills.
- Increase awareness of others’ emotions and understanding of how kind and unkind actions impact others.
- Act kindly toward themselves and peers in school, home and community.
- Improve the ability to apply problem-solving strategies in many social situations.
- Increase the ability to participate in the classroom productively, contribute to discussions and play a role in the larger group.
- Improve academic performance and achievement.
Anyone walking through our schools will see a variety of kindness activities including a kindness pledge, classroom instruction, art projects, an appreciation station, and much more. The activities throughout Clarinda Kindness Week are all geared toward teaching the students about kindness, the impact it has, and the importance of kindness in the world today. Be #clarindakind!
