Cardinal Theatre Prepares Production
A drama of historic proportions
CARDINAL THEATRE PREPARES PRODUCTION
Cardinal Theatre’s fall mainstage production will be a dynamic documentary. The Triangle Factory Fire Project will be presented Friday and Saturday, November 2 and 3. Students are also proud to announce that this production will also be presented at the Iowa Thespian Festival to be held on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
The play was written by Christopher Piehler in collaboration with Scott Alan Evans. The historic story is told by a company of actors who together portray over 30 individuals.
The story of the fire begins a year before the date of the fire: Saturday, March 25, 1911. In the Triangle Waist Factory off downtown Manhattan's Washington Square—where 500 immigrant workers from Poland, Russia and Italy toil fourteen-hour days making lady's dresses—a cigarette is tossed into a bin of fabric scraps. Flames sweep through the upper floors. Panic-stricken workers run in all directions. Some make it to the fire escape, only to have it collapse beneath them. Exit doors are locked. Dozens leap from the windows to their deaths. The Triangle Factory Fire Project uses archival material to create an account of this historic fire and the social upheaval that followed.
The acting company includes Blryce Glidden, Damon Nally,Cooper Randolph, Aiden Shatava, Jordan Fastnacht, Olivia Plowman, Brett Samuelson, Tatiana Schaapherder, Isabel Solivan, Samantha Eberly, Kari VanNostrand, Aubrey Bond, Kamdyn Beal, and Catie Plowman. The Stage Manager is Lauren Tunnicliff and Assistant Stage Manager is Chase McAndrews.
The story of the Triangle Factory Fire is compelling and frightening. The result of the fire changed factories and safety concerns throughout the United States. Cardinal Theatre students invite you to enjoy an evening of fine theatre November 2 and 3. Reservations are recommended.
