No One Eats Alone

No One Eats Alone is a lunchtime school event that seeks to reverse the trends of social isolations by asking students to engage in a simple act of kindness at lunch-- making sure that no one is eating alone and students are making an effort to eat with new classmates and peers. Only 3 schools in Iowa participated in this event.

Beyond Differences sponsored the event (beyond differences.org) it is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending social isolation in middle schools across the country and creating a culture in which all kinds feel included, valued and accepted by their peers. The organization is based on tenet that students are in charge of their own campus culture of inclusion.

Student Council took on the role of incorporating it on February 9th, 2018. During this week homerooms did activities that promoted ending social isolation. This Friday Student Council made a kindness tree in which students were encouraged to put on kindness apples during lunch. Music and Would You Rather got students to engage with other students they might normally sit. Stickers and bracelets were handed out to all students as a reminder to reach across social boundaries and to be kind to everyone.

Next week is Random Acts of Kindness Week- a week full of Wonder and acts of Kindness. Stay tuned for more pictures and activities!
