Mrs. Murren's Music Class Receives Ukuleles

This is Mrs. Murren’s first year teaching music for the district, but you may remember her (the artist formerly known as Miss Karns) as an elementary teacher for the past several years. In her first year as 5th-12th grade general/vocal music teacher, she has lots of ideas and hopes to bring some new experiences to her students, which led her to the website DonorsChoose.org as a way to help achieve some new goals. In the beginning of October, Mrs. Murren created a project request through the site to allow donors to contribute directly to her goal of obtaining a classroom set of 35 rainbow colored ukuleles to be used in her middle school general music classes. After sharing the project through Facebook, Schoology, word of mouth, and a special announcement at the CHS Variety Show November 7th, the project goal of $1,471 was met in only one month! After receiving $1,150 from donors with various ties to the school, the rest of the project was completed by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the ukuleles are now on their way to Clarinda. Thanks so much to those who donated so generously to this project! Stay tuned for details about how CMS students’ music lives are being changed by this project!
