Iowa Youth Straw Poll

The Iowa Youth Straw Poll is a vote conducted by Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s office. It is a tool to teach students about the importance of voting and about how votes are conducted. An added benefit is they get to share their opinion on some topics that may be important to them. This year 350 schools around the state including 150 students in my 7th and 8th grade Social Studies classes took part in the Straw Poll. Questions were posted on the board and students cast their ballots into a box with a slit in the top upon my desk. Results were tabulated and submitted to the state website.  Here are the results of our ballots.
