Brokaw FFA Members Conduct Seatbelt Safety Program
Brokaw FFA members of Clarinda conducted a rural road safety program entitled “Buckle Up or Eat Glass” to area students on September 26. The program is sponsored in part by Farm Safety 4 Just Kids and the Governor’s Safety Council.
As part of the program, members stopped vehicles coming to the middle school and the high school on the morning of the 26th and checked for seatbelt use. Those students wearing their safety belts were given a “prize” for doing so. FFA members then presented a safety presentation, highlighting many safety procedures to use in rural areas and startling statistics about rural accidents. The presentation was given to all eighth graders at the Middle School.
After completing the final report, it showed that 96% of the students who were stopped and checked for seatbelt use were indeed wearing their safety belts. FFA members helping with the presentation were Abbie Guthrie, Paige Sunderman, Joslynn Williams, Sadie Graham, Hunter Crawford, and Austin Gutknecht. Members helping check seatbelts were Taylor Wedemeyer, Darah Gray, Brady Williams, Brett Robberts, Brodee Means, Austin Wagaman, and Austin Gutknecht.
