Cardinal Theatre to stage The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
A most unique and compelling production…
Cardinal Theatre to stage The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Once again, Clarinda High School’s Cardinal Theatre begins the school year with their fall mainstage production. This fall we are very proud and excited to present The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Currently in the rehearsal process, the production will take the stage on Friday and Saturday, November 3 and 4. The curtain time is 7:30 PM. Please note that the curtain time has been adjusted to one half hour later from the past few years. The play is based on the book of the same title by Mark Haddon and adapted by Simon Stephens.
The story revolves around 15-year-old Christopher who has an extraordinary brain: He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is 7 minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was the winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play. It was first presented by the National Theatre, London at the Cottesloe Theatre on August 2nd 2012 and transferred to the Gielgud Theatre, West End, London on March 12th 2013. The Play opened in the USA at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on October 5th 2014. The Play is presented by kind permission of Warner Bros. Entertainment. Also, to the best of our knowledge, Clarinda’s Cardinal Theatre is the first school in the state of Iowa to be granted the rights to produce the play, courtesy of Dramatist Publishing Company of New York.
Mr. Balster, director of theatre, has conveyed to students that this is probably one of the most challenging productions he has ever directed. He stated, “Not only is the story of Christopher compelling, warm, and touching, the production will demand more unique technical work than Cardinal Theatre has ever attempted.” Considering the past accomplishments of Cardinal Theatre, this promises to be a show not to be missed.
The cast of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time includes Jordan Fasnacht as Christopher and Brett Samuelson as Siobahn, Christopher’s teacher. Cooper Randolph will take the role as Christopher’s father, Ed, and the role of Judy, Christopher’s mother will be played by Isabel Solivan. The cast includes six more actors who will portray a variety of characters in Christopher’s search for the truth. They are Kari VanNostrand, Damon Nally, Jesse Espinosa, Dylan Fahey, Olivia Plowman, and Aubrey Buelow. The production Stage Manager is Lauren Tunnicliff, and the Assistant Stage Manager is Tatiana Schaapherder.
