Opera Iowa
On Monday, April 13th, Opera Iowa will be visiting Garfield Elementary School in Clarinda. The touring opera troupe will be presenting a production of "Billy Goat's Gruff" to all students grades K-4, sponsored by the Clarinda PTA. Later that evening, they will be presenting a community performance of "Cinderella" at the Clarinda High School Auditorium, sponsored by Clarinda Community Theatre and the Earl N. and Mabel Bragg Bossingham Foundation.
Opera Iowa came to Garfield two years ago and presented "The Three Little Pigs" as a school-wide assembly. Clarinda PTA again generously agreed to sponsor the event for all of the students. This year, the troupe offered an evening community performance at an additional cost. Clarinda Community Theatre, with assistance by the Bossingham Foundation, stepped in as co-sponsor to bring Opera Iowa to the community as well.
Opera Iowa is an educational touring troupe that visits schools all over Iowa as part of a 13-week tour. Part of the Des Moines Metro Opera, they present curriculum-based educational workshops and performances designed especially for young people.
The community production of "Cinderella" will be free to the public, with a freewill donation to benefit Garfield Elementary Music Program and CHS Cardinal Theatre. There will be reserved tickets, available beginning March 30th by calling the Garfield Elementary Office at (712)542-4510 or by contacting Garfield teacher and CCT President Julie Karns at (712)304-2054. Please reserve your tickets early because this performance is bound to fill up!
