The following are scholarships offered by local businesses, families, clubs and organizations.

General Scholarship Description

 

Annette Nelson Memorial Scholarship - CRHC Aux.

This scholarship was established in 2017 to honor the life of Annette Nelson and to continue her legacy of service, generosity, and her love of sports. The Annette Nelson Memorial Scholarship is an annual award that focuses on recognizing ambitious, driven, and goal-oriented individuals with a background of consistent civic involvement or community service, and a love of playing or supporting any high school sports program.

The recipient will receive a one-time award of $1,000 facilitated through the Clarinda Regional Health Center Auxiliary, a program Annette loved and devoted much of her time, to a graduating senior from Clarinda Community High School.

DUE: April 15, 2019 to Clarinda Regional Health Center.

Clarinda Regional Health Center Auxiliary Scholarship

Applicant must be an employee of CRHC; a family member of someone employed by CRHC; a CRHC Auxilian; a family member of a CRHC Auxilian; or have participated in the CRHC VolunTeen program.

State Grants & Scholarships

Grant and scholarship funds are available to assist students in paying educational expenses. Unlike student loans, scholarships and grants are considered gift aid and do not need to be repaid. Below is a list of state of Iowa grants and scholarships available to Iowans.  Because each program is different, it is important to read and understand their specific eligibility requirements and application deadlines.  Additional programs are available through the federal government and private sources.

Iowa Federal Aid Application

Although applying for state financial aid requires effort on your part, it has never been easier. By completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you will apply for most federal, state, and institutional scholarships, grants, and work study programs. Some state grant programs require a separate application which you can complete through the Eligibility Wizard. This single application will allow you to apply for multiple state programs. Please be aware of the individual application deadlines surrounding the state scholarship and grant programs.

American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship

Any graduating senior enrolled in a post-high-school program at IWCC
(Clarinda Campus) may apply.

Bank Iowa Spirit of Chandy Scholarship

Due to Bank Iowa - Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of academics, character, leadership, honors/awards received and participation in school and community activities, as well as involvement in the activities Chandy was passionate about (swimming, biking, running and flying).

DUE: March 5, 2019 to Bank Iowa.

Cardinal Theatre Patron Scholarship

Applicants must be a graduating senior who has been accepted in a college,
university, conservatory, or training program majoring in theatre arts.

DUE: March 15, 2019 to Mrs. Almelien.

Cathy Hookham Memorial Scholarship

The Cathy Hookham scholarship will be awarded to an applicant that has a minimum GPA of 2.3, are or were active in extra-curricular activities such as band, drama, sports and vocal music and who have shown resourcefulness and independence in their school activities that would demonstrate an ability to be self-motivated, to think independently of faculty, administrators and their peers, but who are also responsible citizens.

Charles Hockenberry Foundation Scholarship

The Charles Hockenberry Foundation is a private charitable foundation established to make grants and awards to, or on behalf of, physically, mentally, or economically disadvantaged children residing in Page County, Iowa.

Charles and Lillie Tomlinson Educational Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide tuition aid for the post-secondary education for graduating senior from any school district within Page or Taylor Counties that has a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, with special consideration based on need, scholarly achievement, character and reputation.

CHS Alumni Scholarship

The alumni of the Clarinda High School Class of 1962 established the CHS Alumni Scholarship Fund in the fall of 2017. Additional sponsors of the fund include: CHS Class of 1953, CHS Class of 1967 and Harry and Dorothy Solomon. This fund was established to provide any or all CHS alumni a manner in which to contribute for the purpose of awarding scholarships to Clarinda High School graduating seniors who plan to enroll in a trade/vocational school, community college or university, with special consideration based on need, scholarly achievement, character and reputation.

CHS Class of 1954 Scholarship

The alumni of the Clarinda High School Class of 1954 will award a scholarship to a Clarinda High School graduating senior or post-graduate who is pursuing a degree in higher education, with special consideration based on need, scholarly achievement, character and reputation. The Foundation will make an annual scholarship award from the fund of $500 as long as the fund balance permits.

CHS Class of 1965 Scholarship

The alumni of the Clarinda High School Class of 1965 will award a scholarship to a Clarinda High School graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in higher education planning to attend Iowa Western Community College - Clarinda Campus.

DUE: March 15, 2019 to Mrs. Almelien or Clarinda Foundation.

Clarinda Foundation (Egnineering-Agriculture) Scholarship

The Clarinda Foundation (Engineering – Agriculture) Scholarship Fund was established to provide tuition aid for the post-secondary education of a CHS graduating senior that plans to enroll in an accredited trade/vocational school, community college or university in the field of engineering or agriculture with special consideration based on need, scholarly achievement, character and reputation. The Foundation will make an annual scholarship award from the fund of $1,000 as long as the fund balance permits.

Clarinda Kiwanis Scholarship

The Clarinda Kiwanis Club will award a scholarships to two Clarinda High School graduating seniors who plan to attend Iowa Western Community College Clarinda Campus (IWCC) for the school year following their graduation.

Clarinda Optimists Scholarship

Graduating senior of Clarinda High School; GPA = 3.0; Attending college or university

Clarinda Veterans Scholarship

The Clarinda Veterans Scholarship Fund was established by a group of local veterans to provide tuition aid for the post-secondary education of a Clarinda or South Page graduating senior that plans to enroll at an accredited technical/vocational school or college and is a descendent (sibling, child, grandchild or great-grandchild) of a U.S. veteran with special consideration based on need, scholarly achievement, character and reputation.

Darrell & Mary Hutchinson Scholarship

The Darrell and Mary Hutchinson Vocational Scholarship was established by Mary Renshaw Hutchinson in memory of her husband Darrell after his death in May 2005. Darrell served in the Army during WWII. He worked for Iowa Power Company in the station maintenance department before he retired. The Hutchinson’s moved to Clarinda from Council Bluffs in 1986. Mary now resides with family in Miles City, Montana. The Darrell and Mary Hutchinson Vocational Scholarship will be awarded to a Clarinda High School graduating senior planning to continue his/her education toward a vocational career.

Ethel Brockman Nursing Scholarship

The Ethel Brockman Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to a Clarinda High School or South Page High School graduating senior planning to pursue a degree in higher education with the intent to become a registered nurse.

Evelyn Herzberg Educational Scholarship

To qualify for a scholarship the applicant must be a graduating senior of Clarinda Community High School and shall have a cumulative GPA no less than 3.0.

Farm Bureau - Iowa
  • College freshmen, sophomores or juniors at a two or four-year accredited college/university are also eligible to apply. Please include a college transcript with your grade point average with application.
  • Students must maintain a cumulative minimum 2.5 grade point average throughout their college career and be pursuing a degree (major) in agriculture, nursing or education to continue to qualify for the four-year renewable scholarship. Academic minors are not considered in evaluating eligibility. It is the major area of study which must be in agriculture, education or nursing. See list below. Student must maintain at least a 12-hour workload and/or be considered a full time student paying full time tuition.

Page County Farm Bureau

Page County Farm Bureau is offering two $1000 scholarships to students pursuing a degree from a 4-year college/university, community college or technical program.  The student must be a son or daughter of a Page County Farm Bureau member, or an adult member themselves

Taylor County Farm Bureau

Taylor County Farm Bureau and Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF) are offering scholarships to students of Taylor County Farm Bureau members.  Applications with official transcripts and reference letters are due to the Taylor County Farm Bureau office at 607 Pollock Blvd., Bedford, IA 50833 by UPDATED SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION FOR 2019 HAS NOT BEEN RELEASE YET

FCCLA - Candee Crain Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a Clarinda High School senior or a Clarinda High School graduate who plans to enroll in or who is presently enrolled in a post-high school Family Consumer Sciences related program.

George McNees Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating senior of Clarinda Community High School and eligible for enrollment in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in higher education with a major in agriculture or business.

Glenn Miller Scholarship Competition

Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high seniors and first year college students who intend to make music a central part of their future.  Those who have entered as high school seniors are eligible to compete again as college freshmen, unless they have been previous first place winters.

Glenn Miller Music Prize Scholarship

Graduating seniors from Clarinda Community High School planning to continue education at a post-high school institution, but not necessarily intending to have a field of music as a major field of post high school study.

Glenn Miller VFW Scholarship

The Glenn Miller VFW Post # 9230 sold their building in April 2013 due to the expense of keeping the building up. It was a very painful decision to make but with much forethought and planning, a negative situation became a positive for the community. The sales proceeds were donated to several good causes with one of those being the establishment of the Glenn Miller Veterans of Foreign Wars Scholarship. The Glenn Miller Veterans of Foreign Wars will award two scholarships to Clarinda or South Page High School graduating seniors who are descendants of a veteran of a foreign war and who are pursuing post-secondary education.

Helen Hawley O.E.S. Music Award

UPDATED SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION FOR 2019 HAS NOT BEEN RELEASE YET 

  • High School Seniors graduating from Clarinda, Sidney, Shenandoah or South Page schools.
  • A good overall academic record with a G.P.A. no less than 2.75 on a 4-Point scale.  Please have the counselor or principal verify this G.P.A. with his/her signature.
  • An outstanding record of participation in high school musical activities, including instrumental, vocal, musical theater, or community musical activities.  Leadership in one or more areas of music will count extra.
  • A desire to make music an important part of your adult life

 

Hugh Loudon Agricultural/Business Scholarship

Hugh Loudon Agriculture/Business Scholarship will be awarded to a Clarinda High School graduating senior planning to pursue a vocation in agriculture or business.

Iowa Western Scholarship

Awarded to students attending Iowa Western Community College - any campus. Iowa Western Foundation Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, involvement and/or financial need.

Mary Montgomery Memorial Scholarship

The Mary Montgomery Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a woman who is a graduating senior or a post-graduate student who is a member of or affiliated with the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Clarinda and is pursuing a degree in higher education at an accredited college or university.

Maxine S. Loudon Scholarship

 The Maxine S. Loudon Scholarship will be awarded to a Clarinda High School senior planning to obtain a degree in secondary education with an emphasis in the humanities

Norm Mier Memorial Scholarship

The Norm Mier Memorial Scholarship will award a scholarship to a Clarinda High School graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in higher education (college, university or trade schools)

Harold & Dale McKinley Education Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to an individual that graduated from either Clarinda or South Page and will be enrolled in their junior or senior year of college pursuing a major in primary or secondary education

Page County Cattlemen Scholarship

The Page County Cattlemen are awarding scholarships to any high school senior in Page County whose family is a member of the Page County Cattlemen’s Association.  The student can be entering college for any field of study.  The dollar amount will be determined based off of the number of applicants.

Kolleen McGargill Foundation Scholarship

1. Must be a senior in high school in good standing. 

2. Must have a G.P.A. of 2.50 or higher.

3. Must LIVE IN Fremont or Page County, Iowa.

4. Requires Counselor Signature

Patsy Martin Scholarship

The Patsy Martin Scholarship will award a scholarship to a Clarinda High School graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in English, particularly teaching or writing

Ralph & Gladys Borden Memorial Scholarship

The 4-year renewable Ralph & Gladys Borden scholarship is awarded to two graduating high school seniors who reside in the boundaries of the former New Market School District. The scholarship is renewable for up to a total of eight (8) semesters based on the student’s continued college performance and funds available from the endowment left by the estate of Ralph Borden.

Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation Scholarships

This website has several  SWI scholarships. Please read through them and follow their criteria for application as it is different from the criteria listed above. 

Southwest Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative Scholarship

The recipient shall be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited college, university, or vocation / technical school. Southwest Iowa REC will give 12 $500 scholarships and two $1,000 scholarships for any student attending Lineman College or other electrical trade programs. See Scholarship Rules

Swisher Family Vocational Scholarship

The Swisher Family Vocational Scholarship will be awarded to a Clarinda High School graduating senior planning to continue his/her education toward a vocational career

Vernon J. Baker Educators' Scholarship

The Vernon J. Baker Scholarship will be awarded to a Clarinda High School graduating senior (or seniors) planning to pursue a degree in higher education at an accredited college or university.
